Eid al-Fitr

Categories: Diversity & Inclusion

Ramadan 2021 will come to an end this week, marked by the celebration of Eid al-Fitr. Across the globe, more than a billion and a half Muslims have been observing Ramadan - the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, and the period of time people fast between dawn and sunset. One of the five pillars of Islam is giving to charity or Zakat. At Eid, there is a specific type of charitable giving called Zakat al-Fitr, which can take place at the end of Ramadan. However, it is recommended this is given out in advance so those in need can also join in the celebration of Eid.
