March is Women’s History Month, and this year’s theme, "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations," reminds us of the collective strength, equality, and influence that women bring to education, mentorship, and leadership.

Did you know? Women’s History Month is more than just a celebration—it’s a time to honor the achievements, resilience, and impact of women throughout history. From pioneering leaders in education to historic moments that shaped the fight for equality, here are some fascinating facts about Women’s History Month!

  • Women’s History Month started as a week-long celebration in 1980 before being expanded to the full month of March in 1987. 
  • The first women’s rights convention, the Seneca Falls Convention, took place in 1848, setting the stage for women’s advocacy and equality.
  • Women have historically been pioneers in education. For example, Malala Yousafzai has championed global education rights, and Mary McLeod Bethune founded a school for African American girls that later became Bethune-Cookman University.

Women Who Embody This Year’s Theme

The theme, "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations," is exemplified by numerous influential women throughout history, including:

  • Marie Curie – A two-time Nobel Prize-winning scientist whose research in radioactivity paved the way for future generations in STEM.

  • Maya Angelou – A renowned writer, poet, and educator who used her voice to inspire generations through literature and activism.
  • Malala Yousafzai – An advocate for girls' education worldwide, showing the power of perseverance and courage in creating a better future.
  • Katherine Johnson – A NASA mathematician whose calculations helped launch the first U.S. astronaut into orbit, proving that women belong in STEM.

Honoring Women at Flagship!

This year's theme rings especially true for all the incredible women who work here at Flagship. Every day, they show up, work hard, and lead by example, inspiring those around them and shaping the future in meaningful ways. Their dedication and contributions don’t go unnoticed, and we want to take this month-long celebration to recognize and honor them.

Let’s take this month to celebrate, support, and uplift all women as we work together to create a brighter and more equitable future for generations to come.
